MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS(VARIES BY DEPARTMENT)

Typically must be at least 18 years of age.

Own a valid operating driver' license.​

Typically must reside near the area you wish to volunteer.

Complete and pass a physical exam.

Completion of firefighter training.
US citizenship.
Pass a background investigation.

​Must serve probationary period once accepted as a volunteer firefighter.

​Maintain ongoing course study and training exercises.

​A general idea of training and duty commitments for a month include:

• participate in a specific number of emergency calls
  
• ​completion of four hours training to maintain safety skills
  
• ​assist in the maintenance and care of equipment
  
• ​assist in outreach and education
